Flexibility in how you receive therapeutic support is important, and the traditional model of weekly psychotherapy is shifting to meet your needs. Traditional talk therapy is a long-term treatment aimed at helping you work through life challenges over time. But two challenges may come up:

1) Your schedule is demanding and unpredictable, making a weekly therapy appointment overwhelming.

2) You are looking for effective help quickly. The idea of spending months in talk therapy may be making it impossible to feel better.

Intensive EMDR Therapy

What are the advantages of EMDR intensive therapy?

  • treatment efficiency

  • reduced risk of treatment-related destabilization

  • reduced risk of life crises disrupting treatment

  • rapid results which preclude further suffering or harm from the symptoms.

  • roughly halves treatment time, very possibly a few days because effects are being optimized with longer sessions

What does an EMDR Intensive Include:

  • Pre-consultation interview to assess for candidacy, as well as target unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief.

  • A customized treatment program with targeted goals. Therapy with Sally-Anne is done either in person or virtually, often for 3-9 sessions (1.5 to 2 hours each session). An example of an intensive could be 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in afternoon for 3-5 days in a row.

  • Post-treatment interview to assess and support your adaptation to positive changes from treatment. Intensives can vary in the amount and length of sessions. Here are two examples of what Intensive therapy may look like.

Not sure which type is for you? Not to worry! Phases 1 and 2 of EMDR are identical for both options and the first two sessions are the same. Please keep in mind, that additional time may need to be added in order to complete your treatment.
